Bomb threat made at Smithsonian National Museum of American History

U.S. Park Police say nothing has been found so far. The investigation has now been turned over to MPD.

WASHINGTON — The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a bomb threat made at the Smithsonian Museum of American History on Thursday.

The Smithsonian said they received a call around 5:25 p.m. on Thursday. The building was already closing to the public at that time they began evacuating all staff in the building.

The U.S. Park Police arrived at the scene with bomb sniffing dogs who conducted a floor-by-floor search.

The Smithsonian Office of Protection Services conducted a full sweep of the building and confirmed everyone was evacuated. The museum was scheduled to close at 5:30 p.m.

U.S. Park Police and MPD concluded their investigation Thursday evening and found no credible threat. The museum has been cleared and will reopen at its normal time of 10 a.m. on Friday, April 19.
