Police issue nearly 5,700 citations and warnings in first wave of Fairfax Co. 'Road Shark' campaign

Fairfax County Police say officers dealt with some drivers exceeding speeds of 100 miles per hour.

WASHINGTON — Thousands of drivers were given citations or warnings as Fairfax County kicked off the first wave of the 2024 Road Shark campaign

This coordinated enforcement and education effort, launched earlier this month, builds upon the success of last year’s initiative, which resulted in nearly 25,000 citations and warnings over four phases. In 2023, the Road Shark campaign successfully promoted safer roads with the support of FCPD officers, partners, and engaged drivers, accomplishing a significant decrease in traffic-related incidents and a remarkable improvement in overall road safety.

The first wave of the Road Shark program was held between March 17 and March 23. During that time, officers with both the Fairfax County Police Department and Virginia State Police issued nearly 5,700 citations and warnings. That is more than 1,900 more citations and warnings issued in our first Road Shark wave of 2023.

The second wave of the Road Shark campaign will begin on April 22.
