Semi-truck driver that killed a 22-year-old woman in hit-and-run identified

Police are still investigating what led to the crash, and charges are pending.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A woman's body was found on the shoulder of I-95 near Route 198 in Maryland on Nov. 21, Maryland State Police said. State Police CRASH Team investigators located the vehicle and the driver in North Carolina on Tuesday. 

The suspected driver was driving a white and green 2017 Freightliner Cascadia. The driver is not being identified at this time, and charges in the incident are still pending. 

Shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 21, police said a motorist reported a female body on the shoulder of the road and waited on scene for police to arrive. Troopers from the College Park Barrack went to the area and found the body near the right shoulder in a grassy area. 

The victim is identified as Lourdina Hyppolite, 22, of Beltsville, Maryland.

Hyppolite was declared dead at the scene. The preliminary investigation shows the victim was a pedestrian hit by a Freightliner Cascadia on northbound I-95 near Route 198. Debris left at the scene led police to identify the striking vehicle, which did not stay on scene. 

State police investigators are asking anyone with information is asked to call the Maryland State Police at (301) 345-2101.

Additionally, George's County police responded to a reported shooting in Beltsville, Maryland Nov. 12, and found a man inside a car suffering from a gunshot wound. 

Around 4:40 p.m. officers were called to the scene of a shooting in the 3500 block of Powder Mill Road, where they found a man in a car with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 

Police have identified the deceased as 29-year-old Samie Neil of Adelphi. This is the third fatal incident where men were found shot in cars in Prince George's County in one week. 

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
