WASHINGTON — A morning shower, or even a rumble of thunder, then potential record heat sets up for Wednesday.

A shower or storm may linger into the morning hours of Wednesday before skies clear throughout the day and temperatures soar to near 90 degrees.
We're tracking more shower and storm chances for Thursday that could come in two waves - the first during the morning commute and the second later Thursday evening. Once again showers and storms will be hit or miss and not everyone will get wet weather. We will be monitoring the potential for strong and possible severe storms embedded in the evening round of rain. The Storm Prediction Center currently has areas along and east of I-95 under a level 2 out of 5 risk for severe storms with the biggest threat being damaging wind and small hail.

Behind the cold front ushering in Thursday evening's storm chance, temperatures will turn cooler in the upper 60s and low 70s for the end of the week and Mother's Day weekend.
Friday will feature partly cloudy skies and only a few light, scattered showers. Saturday will be mostly, if not completely, dry with more sunshine. Sunday does look a bit cloudier for Mother's Day with more scattered showers likely.
