WASHINGTON -- Several firefighters were hurt after they were hit by a vehicle while responding to another accident on the 14th Street Bridge on Friday afternoon.

According to Metro PD, they were originally responding to a hit-and-run crash on the inbound side of the bridge at 4:28 p.m.

While DCFEMS members were dealing with the driver of the car that was hit in the first crash, they were hit by a second vehicle.

The driver of that car stayed on the scene.

Police said one firefighter has serious, non-life-threatening injuries, while two other firefighters have minor injuries.

Late Friday night, fire officials said two members had been released from the hospital, while a third remained hospitalized in stable condition.

The driver of the car from the first crash that brought emergency crews out suffered a medical emergency at the scene and was taken to the hospital.

MPD wanted to remind drivers to slow down when approaching an accident and to move over and away from first responders.
