LIST: Events in DC to honor the fallen service members this Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day is about recognizing the sacrifices made by our fallen warriors. 6,964 service members have been killed in action since September 11.

WASHINGTON -- It's Memorial Day Weekend. That does mean there will be shopping deals, traffic and cookouts, but let's not forget the real meaning behind the holiday.

Memorial Day is about recognizing the sacrifices made by our fallen warriors. 6,964 service members have been killed in action since September 11.

Those services members were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends. They leave behind family members carrying such a heavy loss.

So this year, instead of just focusing on the deals or the cookout, remember the sacrifice and those still grieving.

If you'd like to honor the fallen and their families, here is a list of events from Visit D.C. that you can go to this weekend.

1) The largest Memorial Day parade will held on Monday, May 27 at 2 p.m. own Constitution Avenue.

2) Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally. This will be held on Sunday, May 26. This will be the final rally of a 30-year tradition. The ride will start at the Pentagon and winds through West Potomac Park
