GREAT MILLS, Md. -- Great Mills High School was placed on lockdown on Wednesday after police say a 17-year-old, who is wanted in connection to a shooting, was seen in the area of the school.
The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution and there was a large police presence on scene, according to St. Mary's Sheriff.
Elijah Miguel Miles of California is wanted by police in connection to a shooting that happened in the Hickory Hills neighborhood on Tuesday. Police say Miles was seen near the school and arrested on Wednesday.
Great Mills students were released early from school at 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Officials say there was no threat to students or the community. Parents were asked to stay at home or work.
On March 20 of this year, the 17-year-old shooter opened fire and shot at two students inside the hallway at Great Mills High School. The shooter, Austin Wyatt Rollins, died.
Jaelynn Willey, 16, also died in the shooting. Police say the shooter and victim had been involved in a previous relationship, which had recently ended. Another student was also injured in the shooting.
This shooting happened only days before the March for Our Lives, where hundreds of thousands of kids and families took to the streets around the country to protest gun violence and mass shootings in schools.
