FREDERICK, Md. -- Frederick County, Md. was thawing out after a particularly snowy storm.

Parts of Frederick County received more than 5 inches of snow on Thursday.

The snow snarled traffic throughout parts of the region too.

Around 1 p.m., Buckeystown Pike, near Interstate 270, was still covered in snow. Multiple accidents had been reported on other busy thoroughfares as well.

"There were accidents,” said Frederick County driver Andy Zoulias. “There were trucks that were tipped over. There were all kinds of stuff."

It is the role of the Frederick County Department of Highway and Facility Maintenance to remove snow from more than 2,800 miles of county roads.

The department said the process got complicated Thursday tractor trailer accidents on state roads started to divert traffic to county roads. That ultimately made it harder for their plows to clear roads.

Zoulias said he understood the situation.

"They just had a hard time keeping up with it,” he said. “I don't think they expected as much as they got."
