A deputy with Prince George's Sheriff's Department was injured after a barricade situation near Route 1 in College Park early Monday morning, officials said.

Around 3:40 a.m., authorities received a tip that a man barricaded himself in to his home in the 6900 block of Carleton Terrace.

A family member called the police and wanted the 38-year-old taken for a mental health evaluation. When they arrived, he struck the deputy. Officials said he is in stable condition.

Authorities were negotiating with the man who went on the roof until SWAT arrived with a firefighter's ladder. He then came down. He is now in custody and being taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
